Diet Culture Drop-Out Support
Online Support Group for Women and Community for Womxn
You really gave it a shot. Diet culture pulled you in and you went for it. You tried the things that Instagram and Tiktok ‘told’ you to do. Crazy diets that mad you eliminate many food groups. Doing exercises for hours to the point that you wanted to pass out. Oh, don’t forget the waist trainer or the detox teas! You did this song and dance for quite some time. And, you wanted to like it. Maybe you even did like it at one point. But then you realize how excessive it is. How much of yourself you were donating to a construct and industry that couldn’t wait to spit you out and make you feel terrible about yourself. Getting out of the culture can be a battle. But we’re happy you made that decision!
Okay, so you’ve decided to opt-out of diet culture and start accepting your body just as it is. Congrats! I’m sure you did not come to that decision lightly.
But now what???
Diet culture is all over the place and it’s hard to escape. Most advertisements are filled with themes of diet culture. Everything from adds to “get rid of the loose skin on your face” to happy thin jumping around. On top of that, it’s in our social circles. At work, with our friends, and families. Sometimes, it feels “unpopular” not to be on a diet. It can feel isolating when everybody is sitting around sharing their latest fad-diet escapades. And, you’re just sitting there twiddling your thumbs. You know, not feeling loads of pressure to start a restrictive diet. On top of that, it can feel frustrating when you see the people you love continuing to fall victim to the diet culture monster. You see them criticize everything they do and eat. Nothing is good enough. They always need to “try harder.” Have “more discipline.” But now that you’ve seen the full effect of diet culture on your life and everybody around you, you can’t imagine turning back.
Unlearning Diet-Culture is not just a challenge…it’s hard AF.
And it’s not something you should be doing alone…
There is a hero in this story…,
